Located in Abingdon, Virginia, Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Charities (AHCDC) supports Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Center, along with other organizations providing essential dental care to those in need.
Because dental care is health care.
A smile.
It’s the simplest way to brighten someone’s day. But every day members of our own community go without the dental care they desperately need—leaving them in pain, unable to eat, struggling to live healthy, fulfilling lives, and afraid to smile. That’s why we’re on a mission to provide high-quality dental care to our uninsured and underinsured neighbors in Southwest Virginia.
Because dental care IS health care.
More than 2,900 people are on a waiting list for dental care in our region.
Dental health directly impacts overall health.
(A region with a shortage of dental health care providers.)
In Southwest Virginia, there are just 29 dentists for every 100,000 residents—leaving far too many of our friends and neighbors without the care they deserve. At Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Charity, we’re changing that. By supporting the organizations providing free and reduced-cost dental care, we’re here to bring compassionate, high-quality treatment to every smile in our community.
“ I think I’ll finally eat a sub sandwich…”
With your help, we’re expanding our capacity by adding more than 1,900 square feet to our current facility, including:
We’re partners for good across Southwest Virginia.
We know that quality dental care doesn’t happen without skilled, compassionate providers. That’s why we’re on a mission to bring highly qualified dental professionals to our area—so every resident in Southwest Virginia can access the care they need and deserve. “I was raised in an extremely low-income family; for my three sisters, my parents and me, dental care wasn’t even something to consider. Food, utilities and other basics came first and there was rarely anything beyond that.
As an adult, helping my family and others to obtain good dental care became a goal. When I was introduced by Senator Todd Pillion, a pediatric dentist, to Dr. Scott Miller at Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Center, I knew that I had found one of the most worthwhile projects of my entire life.
I have been a proud and enthusiastic supporter since my first visit in 2020 and plan to continue my support. This clinic and it’s work not only changes the lives of our clients, it has changed the lives of our staff and of each resident class we have had.”
